    • Equipment

Take only what you need. What that is is up to you, but every gram counts and you don't want the misfortune of showing up on the start line and having the lardiest kit list. Jettisoning kit en route is severely frowned upon so pile up only what you can't do without, then leave half of it at home and you'll still take too much.

  • About

All you need to know about Europe’s longest single stage unsupported bike race.
    • Unsupported

You will ride alone and you will be reliant only on what you can carry with you or can find in publicly available services. No pre-arranged support and no dedicated assistance.

    • Unconstrained

One stage, a start and finish line and a few check points, the rest is up to you. You choose where, when and if you sleep and the route in between. There's no maximum or minimum times.

    • Unmatched

This is Europe's longest single stage unsupported bike race. Riders will cover a minimum of 2000 miles and a mountain checkpoint will take you high into the Alps.

        Leave the car at home.

No vehicle support here, Human power and solo riding only. Find it en-route, carry it yourself, or do without.

      • 2
        Find your own way.

Riders must navigate their way without remote assistance. Old school maps? oh yes, GPS? no worries, Asking the locals? Of course. Phone a friend? – Not cool.

        Live fast

Ride fast and get a good night's sleep or slog it out and burn the midnight oil? The strategy is up to you and so is the choice of accommodation but comfort and speed rarely go together. You've been warned.

        We Are Watching You

Satellite tracking and social media will keep tabs on rider locations and surprise 'audits' are an ever present possibility. You will be required to report your progress regularly and gather evidence that you are keeping on the straight and narrow.

    • Unconstrained

      • One Stage

When the gun goes, the clock starts ticking and doesn't stop until you cross the line. One stage, no time limits, no rest days. You can rest if you want, but you won't win.

      • Checkpoints

1 checkpoint en-route will ensure that you cover a minimum mileage and suffer a few hills, what roads you choose between them though is your call.

      • Finish Line Party

There's no maximum time limit. Take as long as you like, but finish line celebrations will be going off in Istanbul on Saturday 17th August and you won't want to miss it. We'll let you do the maths.

      • Accolades

Its not the winning that matters, alright it is, but so does being a bad-ass and suffering like a good 'un. The biggest rewards may not go to the fastest but they will go to those that earn them.

    • Unmatched

Long enough to really test you, short enough that you can’t rest.

There’s no dodging the mountains but with some of the most inspiring tarmac in the world behind you, you’ll be glad you didn’t.

The Transcontinental is long and beautifully hard. For those who like to find their limits, there’s nothing else quite like it.

  • What they say...

    • Riders will need to ride fast and live fast, it's not just the pedaling that counts, everything you do will be a race, from putting your socks on in the morning, to brushing your teeth.

Mike Hall, 2012 World Cycle Race Winner
    • QuickEnergy is proud to support this festival of suffering in which riders can push themselves to achieve things they never thought possible.

      Malcolm McDermott, QuickEnergy
    • The Adventurists have spent the last 10 years running adventures and devising ways of making the world less boring. Now we're looking forward to making it more painful too.

      Mr Tom, The Adventurists
    • The equivalent of a cyclist Ironman in a race that will push riders to their limits. Lots of pain, sweat and discomfort in exchange for an epic experience: this is the genius of living an adventure.
